Snæfellsnes National Park
Season: All year round, Thursdays and Sundays. Duration: 11 hours
This Snaefellsnes Peninsula Tour takes you on a fascinating journey, culminating right about the halfway point. There you can marvel at the mighty 1.450 meter Snaefellsjokull (Snæfellsjökull volcano glacier) while we visit the national park. Jules Verne made it famous in his novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth”.
The journey begins by taking the 6 km long underwater tunnel – crossing under Hvalfjörður, the Whale bay fjord. Afterward, we travel along the peninsula with the seaside on our left and incredible mountainous scenery on our right, including the stoic Gerðuberg basalt columns. This area became famous due to the movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, from 2013.
Along the way, we drive through small towns and fishing villages, seeing the spectacular bird cliffs and fishing hamlet in Arnarstapi. On the northern side, we take you to the picturesque church-shaped mountain Kirkjufell, accompanied by a wonderful little waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss, on the other side of the road. Kirkjufell is famous Game of Thrones filming location. At Djúpalónssandur beach (not accessible in winter) we will allow those who feel up to it to try their strength with the Stones of Trial INCLUDED:
