Day 1: Arrival and Reykjavík City tour
Approximate driving distance: ca 50 kms Pick-up your rental car at Keflavík International Airport. Drive to your hotel in Reykjavík. Take walk in the city centre and visit the main sites including the Museums and Hallgrímskirkja, Tjörnin late, Harpa. Or you can explore Reykjavik in the day before you leave Iceland. If weather condition is good you can go out to chasing northern lights in Reykjavik area. The most important is to find a darkness place and stay away from the light pollution. We will provide you some secret places for northern lights hunting in the self driving document. Or you can join a northern lights minibus tour, with a professional guide give you more change to see the northern lights. Overnight in Reykjavik or Selfoss Day 2: Thingvellir National Park – Gullfoss – Geysir
Approximate Driving Distance: 210 km Your first visit is Thingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), where Viking settlers established an annual assembly in AD 930. Thingvellir is also a geological masterpiece, as it marks the visible site where the North American and Eurasian continental plates meet. In summer you can walk along a path taking you between the canyon marking the location of the ridge.As a local and cultural treat today, you’ll should stop at Laugarvatn Fontana Spa, dip into the hot water and afterwards taste the traditional “hot spring bread” at the café.Head through scenic farmlands to the celebrated Gullfoss waterfall, believed by many to be Iceland’s most beautiful cascade. Nearby is the Geysir Hot Spring Area, alive with boiling mud pits, steam vents, and exploding geysers. The most famous of these is Strokkur, a high-spouting geyser that erupts every ten minutes. After check in hotel, you will enjoy a local Icelandic Christmas buffet in Stracta hotel. Overnight in Stracta Hotel Day 3: LAVA Centre – Seljalandsfoss – Skogafoss – Reynisfjara black sand beach
Approximate Driving Distance: 93 km Here is the Scene of the most popular saga - Waterfalls – Volcanic Views – Lava Flow – Magnificent Glaciers. After passing of the main farm regions of the country your first stop is the LAVA Centre, an interactive, high-tech educational exhibition depicting volcanic activity, earthquakes, and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. Enjoy both the exhibit and an interesting film about Icelandic volcanoes. Visit Fljótshlíð where one of the most popular saga of all times, Brennu-Njálssaga took place, stop at Hótel Fljótshlíð for a café and / or visit a local gallery. On a clear day you get a glimpse of Eyjafjallajokull, the famous ice-capped volcano whose 2010 eruption halted air traffic worldwide. Stop at two spectacular waterfalls, each with its own charm and character. Depending on the trail conditions you can walk behind Seljalandsfoss. Skogafoss is one of the country’s most photographed waterfalls and is said to be the hiding place for ancient treasure. View Reynisdrangar and the stunning black beach of Reynisfjara. Overnight in Vík village Day 4. Back to Reykjavik- Sky lagoon In the morning you will start driving back to Reykjavik from Vík. Today our schedule is only geothermal bath. In afternoon you will visit Sky Lagoon, on the outskirts of Reykjavik. Sky Lagoon is a luxurious, man-made thermal bath that juts out over the wild North Atlantic. Soaking in the warm water you can watch the waves crash beneath you and gaze out to the steely horizon, all while staying cosy warm. If you still haven´t see the northern lights, tonight is you last change to catch the northern lights. You can join a northern lights minibus tour or northern lights cruise with a professional guide.
