Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon + Boat Ride
Season: May 1st - August 31st. Duration: 14 hours
Our Glacier lagoon tour will take you along the south of Iceland. You will see the grand waterfall Seljalandsfoss, a quaint fishing village called Vík and the lagoon itself. You will also have a great opportunity to ride a boat across its calm waters.
Description: The Glacier lagoon is one of the longest day tours in the BusTravel Iceland catalogue but it is most certainly worth the drive. Located on the south east part of the island the glacier lagoon is a stunning force of nature which is fed from the largest glacier in Iceland, Vatnajökull. As the ice breaks away from the melting glacier it drifts through the lagoon and towards the ocean which creates a very unique landscape that is constantly moving and shifting. We will also have some time during the drive to visit additional famous stops on the south coast including the mysterious Seljalandsfoss waterfall that you can walk behind and the small fishing village of Vik. Highlights:
Jökulsárlón: The Glacier Lagoon Jökulsárlón, known colloquially as the Glacier lagoon, is an interesting body of water which connects the nearby Vatnajökull glacier with the North Atlantic Ocean. This area became a popular tourist destination, due to the ice breaking away from the glacier and drifting out to the ocean creating a constantly landscape that resembles art. Seljalandsfoss waterfall Seljalandsfoss is a fascinating waterfall and perhaps one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland. Its popularity is well deserved as the Seljalandsfoss waterfall houses a very special surprise, you are able to walk behind the cascade and get a tremendous view of the waterfall from behind. The water that feeds this 60m tall waterfall originates from the (in)famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier capped volcano. just make sure to be careful as you walk along this path as it can get slippery! Village of Vík Vík í Mýrdal is a small fishing village and is in fact the most southerly village on the island. The town only houses 300 inhabitants but despite this there are plenty of great places here for you to rest up and refuel. This is also a great location for you to get gifts for the people waiting for you back home as there are plenty of people here selling amazing homemade gifts. Important information: Make sure to note down your pickup times and Departure Times. Pick up can take up to 30 minutes starting from the time on your ticket. Jökulsárlón (commonly called the Glacier Lagoon), is an interesting body of water. It connects the nearby Vatnajökull glacier with the North Atlantic Ocean. This area became a popular destination, due to the ice breaking away from the glacier and drifting out to the ocean creating a constantly changing piece of art. Our day tour will begin with our fast and efficient pick up service. We will come to collect you from either, one of the hotels in the centre of Reykjavik or from one of the many pick up spots dotted across the city. When all our guests are aboard we will begin our drive along the southern coast of Iceland. You will pass by views of the black sand beaches, glaciers and lava fields that make up the dramatic landscape of the area. Our first destination is the Glacier lagoon. When here you will have an opportunity to board a small boat and travel across the waters of the lagoon to see it up close and personal. Afterwards you may decide to take a walk down to the diamond beach and witness the contrast between the massive chunks of Ice and the black sands. For those who want to learn a little more about the area there is also a fantastic visitors centre that will give you all the information about the lagoon and the surrounding areas. When our time at the lagoon comes to an end we will head back along the south coast again, but our exploration doesn’t end. There is also the village of Vik to see, a small fishing village with only 300 inhabitants. Also the amazing waterfall of Seljalandsfoss. Please bring warm, water- and windproof clothing Included:
